Forum Rules Phantasma: Altered Visions

P:AV follows a more free-form style of roleplaying compared to the previous Phantasma RP. Players are encouraged to and have the responsibility of connecting their own character to the story and the other player characters, and are allowed to use secondary characters (NPCs) and plot events to urge the story forward.

Like the players, the GM will jump in when an opportunity presents itself to start a 'main event', putting everyone on equal footing in crafting the story.

QUOTE ("A message from the GM")
"The formal start of the Chapter 5 missions will welcome a slightly new approach to P:AV. This will be the start of stories where I will time and again as GM challenge you, the players, and throw in unexpected and often unpleasant surprises at your characters. Since everyone is now firmly established, railroading the story is going to stop, and most of the time I will provide only the needed framework for a story setting or the occasional plot device/npc to push it forward, and your characters will take it from there. It will no longer be as simple as slaying ghosts in an area - you will be as much of the story's writer as I am. It will be from now on more imperative to think about what to do next, to make the decisions on where to go and what to do, to solve puzzles and riddles and know where and how to look for the next clue. Ask questions - why is this happening and how. From now on, I will make everyone think as if you were on your character's shoes!"

"I stated this before, and I will say it again. I will make it so that the coming events and trials in your characters' lives will aim to scare them. It will attempt to terrify them, stretch their sanity and break apart their wills. It will make them feel their very mortality, make them realize that despite having special abilities and years of exposure to the hidden world, there are some things that they are NOT meant to fully understand. They will realize their weaknesses, they will feel the unfathomable power and horrifying darkness of their enemies, and they will feel vulnerable to forces unnamable and beyond their existence. No one is ever always in control, and everything they do has a reaction. Innocent people can get hurt; loved ones can die. They, like every person in the world, are small in the grand scheme of things, and no matter how powerful they are, there will always be something lurking beneath, sinister and much more frighteningly powerful. It is a truth they will have to deeply understand before they are capable of fighting against it - and in doing so, they ultimately weave the tale of their lives into a legend."

"This, however, is not possible without your cooperation. You are all good roleplayers, but I implore you to look beyond that. Look beyond your character and see the big picture of the story. You as a player are not a mere speaking role in a play, but we are all writers in this together. That is the true essence of roleplaying: finding a balance, NOT a compromise, between BEING your character and GUIDING the story forward. Do not simply react; push the story forward even by a little bit! Think, follow the clues, ask yourself what would your character do or where he will go, and take a moment to think his thoughts and feel his emotions. Then you will find yourself in a position to make the story as real as it is to them. From now on, this will be vital."

"This chapter will separate, as the saying goes, the real women from the little girls. I as a GM am not here to "win" by defeating the player characters, and you as players are not here to "win" against the GM by outwitting and killing all the monsters. We ALL "win" if the story, no matter how it turns out, will become legendary, one which we will all still be talking about decades from now. We all make the story better or worse together, and we fail or win likewise."

"Things will change in P:AV, but one I hope will be for the better. After all, P:AV is going back to its core roots, the same foundation I originally, initially, planned for it."

------------

Your flight to Mexico is a private plane carrying the Ms. Galaxy International beauty pageant contestants. It is a small passenger flight, but it is designed to be wide, accommodating, and luxurious. Fifty-two of the pageant's contestants are riding the plane, creating an atmosphere of conversation and a veil of tense playfulness - they are all rivals after all, but they are expected to maintain a modicum of courtesy towards each other. You two are the only men in the plane - even the pilot and co-pilot are women. It could've been a paradise, and it was in this flight that Erie somehow got you into - as flight attendants. It is now supposed to be your cover, and compromising it might get you held up in customs - something you'd probably be opposed to, after all the horror stories about Mexican jails you've seen in the news.

Also, the entire plane was a bright pink and yellow - inside and outside. It matches the colors of your new flight attendant uniforms.

Now would be a good time to put the butling skills you've seen from Earl to use.

------------

There was a sickening feeling growing inside you the further the plane went to sea. It started as a dull throbbing which starts to grow; its like the feeling you get in your head from a bass speaker in full blast combined with the monotonous droning "sound" of utter silence. It is unpleasant and uncomfortable, and the world around you starts to feel diffused and dreamlike. Sounds start to fade, and your consciousness seems to want to follow.

You're able to snap back to reality, however. The dull throb is still there, but very minute and negligible. It grows back again over time, but you've found that any form of stimulant - coffee, sugar, alcohol - helps keep the feeling at bay.

Whatever that feeling was or wherever its coming from, it takes a fair bit of concentration to bear it. You find its more difficult to use your powers now, needing to expend more effort to do the same things.

QUOTE
(Seth, being that his powers stem from a different source, is not hit very hard by the said sickening feeling. All he gets is a discomfort which can be associated to travel sickness. Roviden, being of a more supernatural sort, feel it more strongly; his attunement to danger currently tells him nothing.)

He finally clambered out of the plane's well stocked toilet (he didn't know women needed so many products to beautify themselves) after finally heaving out the contents of his stomach down the toilet. Looking up, he saw Miss America looking down at him with a look of concern on her face.

Seth straightened up, remembering why he was here in the first place, and forced a smile and hoped he wasn't blushing profusely (he was, it was more obvious since he was paler now that he's suffering from motion sickness and that strange effect as they left Sojourn) at the sight of a very lovely woman (this was after all a plane for Beauty Pagents, ofcourse they had to be very pretty).

" Terribly sorry..." He said in his best Ghost Butler impression. " ...Bad Chili." He stopped himself from wincing instinctively at the white lie.

The older woman gave a strange sort of titter and ruffled his hair affectionately.

He then opened the door for Miss America and, while mentally wishing he could take a stronger dose of his medicine and be unconscious the rest of the flight, hurried to Miss Argentina to help her with opening her bottle of expensive looking water.

After that he was running around the place to aid the contestants. What he didn't know what that they just wanted him to be near him because he reminded them of a little brother they had or wished they had.

Miss Japan wanted sushi (that whole ordeal made him want to run back to the toilet and further relieve himself of whatever that's left inside his stomach and then some) and asked him if he could wear this cute sparrow clip because it would look good on him and it matches his current outfit (Miss Japan skipped the information that he really looked like a cute little girl in that uniform), Miss Philippines needed a blanket and finally Miss France requested that she needed red wine with her food sil vous plait .

By the time he entered the stock room (Fluffy is safely stored in a traveling cage next by Seth's messenger bag) he was feeling very very weak and dizzy and completely disoriented. He was staring at the collection of wines they had, unable to process which of the wines were red, for quite a while now.

" Red... red..." His eyes were glazed over. " Urgh... red." When he realized that he wasn't exactly looking for the wine, he started over.

He wanted nothing more than to just curl up somewhere to sleep or that the flight would be over as quickly as possible. It was obvious that he was NOT used to flying, or sailing... especially over long distances.

Maybe I should've just gone with Sae... atleast the flight's shorter... He sighed and pulled out a bottle from the rack.

He wondered how his brother was doing, they separated the instant they arrived in the airport because they were given so little time to prepare for their own specific missions (48 minutes!) all he could do was tell them to take care of themselves before he was hauled by Roviden and dragged to their gate.

Another bout of turbulence sent him scrambling for the bathroom on the other side of the plane, still with wine bottle in hand. Passing by a row, he spotted Roviden out of the corner of his eye. It took every bit of him not to toss the bottle at the demon, instead he handed the wine a bit more forcefully than he should have.

" Miss France... aisle L..." He said hastily between 'urks' and gulps before locking himself inside a bathroom again.

Unfortunately for him and probably for everyone in the flight (though the passengers didn't really mind), this happened a lot of times until they returned to Terra Firma.

( Roviden XD )

How long did it take to get to Mexico anyways? Roviden thought bitterly.

The half demon half sat, half laid against the cold steel floor of the plane's stock room. He had his ghastly yellow and pink flight attendant suit top undone, revealing his sun kissed chest as he vigorously ate the last of the flight's hoho's.

He had thrown up twice since he and the geek took off, and now he felt his empty stomach angrily complaining. Never mind that he'd probably vomit everything he ate ...he was freaking starving now. If he threw up now it would only help him get rid of all the sugar he was currently eating

After finishing the treat, he went out of the room. Uniform still unkept and was spotted .

"Sheesh" Roviden took the wine and looked at it, scrutinisin the contents. He gave a the same look to the geek, who seem a bit too pale for his liking.

The half demon paid him no heed and moved towards aisle L. Although, he did feel a tug of guilt as he pushed pass the geek.

Then came the light headedness again. It was strange. he never thought himself to be so prone to air sickness. He didn't even have car or sea sickness, it just wasn't "cool" to have such trivial reactions.

Staring at his target, all his current thoughts vanished.Miss France was one hottie.

Moving forward with his most charming smile. He offered the red wine.

"Some wine to pass the time, ma'am?"

((Seth...hey~! Where is Lemon Tart?))

After a few minutes, he emerged sniffling and coughing from the bathroom looking worse for wear. It seems as though everytime he enters a bathroom he turns a shade paler like there was some vampire in every loo that drained him of his blood everytime.

Groaning as he felt the plane rattle, he looked around for the demon and hoped that he should atleast do one simple task of giving one of their passengers a glass of wine.

Upon locating said demon, he had mixed feelings with the situation.

Well... He sighed. Atleast he did what I asked him...

The boy was just too tired and weak to berate him on how attendants are supposed to act and frankly flirting with every single person inside the plane WASN'T it.

Navigating through the horde that had gathered around Roviden, he trudged back to the place where the attendants stayed and collapsed on one of the seats.

" Planes... " He said as he stared at the ceiling, wishing with all his might that the trip would be over soon. Fluffy chirped quizzically from it's cage.

Seth jumped to his feet when Miss America summoned him to open another bottle of wine. And when he entered the passanger's area, it seems like they were already starting a very rowdy party.

Thankfully they managed to touch down before anything serious happened. The girls had somehow, despite them being rivals for the crown of Miss Galaxy, really bonded with each other. Others were obviously not only rivals for the crown, but are now after the affections of a certain red haired flight attendant.

He, on the other hand, was just happy that they were on land and the ground wasn't going up and down everytime he tried to walk.

After cleaning after the flight (and changing back to the clothes they wore when they took the flight, because obviously yellow and pink made them look a little less manly than they should) they found themselves waiting outside the airport for a taxi.

Seth, who had taken off his heavy coat and left it hanging on his luggage, was now starting to unbutton his shirt in a desperate attempt to cool himself.

" Did Miss Erie say anything about lodging...?" Seth asked weakly. He was on the verge of collapse.

((Roviden or Gm-sama ^^))

The contestants took their time disembarking from the plane, meaning you and your companion (referring to Seth and Roviden here) went ahead first. This is also in keeping with their mission, since, after all, sticking around increases the chance of your cover being blown.

Stepping on solid ground provided some measure of relief. Somehow the sick feeling you got while on the trip soothed down immensely. A dull throb at the back of your head is still there, but it is now more of an annoyance than a painful discomfort.

------------

Inside the plane, a scream broke the cheerful hubbub.

One of the contestants, kind enough to visit the pilots' cabin to give them tokens of appreciation from her country, discovered the horrific scene of two human corpses instead.

The pilots' bodies are withered, graying husks, dried and decayed skin almost clinging to bone. Their eyes are hollow sockets, and their jaws hang from their skulls like a malignant Halloween display. It is the state of decomposition indicating that they have been dead for a very long time.

The pilots have been youthful, energetic, and *alive* when you left Sojourn. Now they are dead.

And you sensed absolutely nothing.

------------

Outside, things are not any less strange. The airport staff are baffled as to the state of the pink plane. There are huge scratches all over the hull, in threes, like feral animal claw marks. Burns mar the edges of the metal where the scratches are, like it was inflicted by sharp, serrated claws hot enough to warp steel.

ALL OVER the plane.

The plane was completely smooth when it left Sojourn.

And you sensed absolutely nothing.

There are forces at work here far different and more alien than you have ever encountered before.

And you sensed absolutely nothing.

------------

The mission papers stated nothing about lodging. You are, however, given a credit card to use for the mission (apparently, expenses will be paid for you, unless you fail the mission - in which case, you'll pay the company for it, one way or another). You are now posing as tourists, as the papers say, and have provided with the information as to where you should start your investigation. You are now on your own to make the choices as to which clue you are supposed to follow first, and how prepared enough are you to make backup plans in case something goes wrong.

Seth, Holy Exorcist, and Roviden, Renegade Demon, are on the case, saying hello to Mexico City.

(( I advise getting as far away as soon as possible. If you are wondering why, think back to the advice written in the mission papers, and think about what the possible consequences are of the newly-dubbed "Ms. Galaxy International Scandal" stated above.

Then again, your characters might be the type to stick around. ^^ Its your roleplaying call! ))

Roviden started tapping at the glass wall which seperated him and Seth from the sweating cab driver from the front of the vehicle. The airconditioning was bad enough that they didn't need to start smelling the BO of a chimp. Specially with the heat and spicy aroma of the area.

"No no...no Alba...senior...err...STOP THE TAXI DEMMIT" He cried irritably.

He needed to get to a hotel...a Five start hotel with proper airconditioning and sanitation.

He and the geek had rushed out of the plane, hoping to escape suspicion for the airport facilitators that were ready and waiting to meet all the contestants. But the look of everyone's faces when they landed aroused the demon's curiosity.

The plane's exterior was completely ruined. The Bright yellow and pink painting, now revealed the gray material beneath it, completely torn...as if....

He had grabbed the geek by the arm roughly and rushed out of the airport. Getting in the first taxi that came by.

The taxi driver was a small brown bald man, who kept looking at Roviden and Seth with something akin to "understanding". He gave them a sly smile , while knudging an elbow at the half-demon and kept saying "amante". To which the demon replied with a blank confused look.

. Thankfully, he had understood the word "Fast" and "Hotel", but the darn man didn't know when to stop. They had past three internationally known hotels already.

After a few more minutes. The taxi driver finally stop and let the pair out. Strangely enough, the man didn't accept the money. He just gave them a pleasant smile and said in a heavy mexican accent ..." Nice"...then drove off.

Leaving the pair infront of the " Libertad Amore Hotel "

Roviden was now utterly confused. Though the hotel looked fairly decent..why the heck was everyone inside....male?

((Sorry is this allowed? o_0;...Seth))

He let himself get dragged around by Roviden, barely noticing anything that was around him. Not once did he protest at all which, considering that he was pretty keen on his 'personal space', would mean that he was just too out of it to even care anymore. The taxi trip was uneventful, he passed out completely when the demon tossed him inside the taxi.

He slept through the entire trip thereby regained a bit of his energy upon arrival to the hotel. Dragging his luggage after him, he saw the red haired demon look around nervously.

Never in Seth's life did he really think that a clean and nice looking hotel that's filled with only male tenants as strange. After all, why would it be? What's more, they do seem to be really friendly with each other.

Maybe he's not used to people being nice to him...?

Though, he thought that the Grecian statues made the lobby a look gaudy but then if they wanted gaudy and tacky furniture as their theme was fine by him. Just as long as there were clean rooms, a soft comfy bed and working loos then who was he to argue?

A tall, flash looking older man who wore dark glasses waved at him from the lounge. He seemed to be drinking with someone too.

He forced himself into a small smile and waved back.

My... they're really nice here in Mexico...

Hurrying past Roviden, he parked his luggage by his side and smiled pleasantly at the receptionist. Seth was tired and hungry, he wanted nothing more than atleast a few minutes of rest and plot out what they needed to do.

" Er... Hallo." He greeted the handsome looking man behind the desk. " My companion and I would like to rent two rooms please."

Seth didn't notice the 'oh so that's how foreigners play it now' look and handed him a key. The receptionist looked at Roviden and then at the smaller young man who had ordered the room and gave the demon a thumbs up.

He, on the other hand, stared at the key and then at the receptionist who started speaking in cheerful, energetic Spanish.

Without any knowledge at all with the Spanish language, he figured that the nice man was telling him that they were full and that they only had one room left. That they were lucky to actually find a room anywhere during this season.Ofcourse, have a nice day was obviously the bit where the receptionist looked at the demon and gave him a thumbs up. What else could that be? Every Hotel employee had to say that didn't they?

" That's very kind of you." He nodded, gratefully and returned to Roviden with the key. " This is the only room they had free." He handed the demon the spare. " I really need to rest for a bit so I'll go on ahead..."

Seth followed the bellboy who came out from a room behind the receptionist's table and retrieved their luggage. The taller man then lead Seth to the elevator and squeezed themselves amongst the other passengers.

(( Roviden coming? XD Gm-sama?))

Aside from the minor lingering throbbing in your heads, nothing strange or special happened in the taxi trip nor the hotel.

(( You can use this time to make plans as to what to do and where to go next to fulfill your mission. Feel your characters' purpose and direction. Make battle plans as to how you'll conduct your investigation. Knowing where to go and what to do to gather the necessary info is key - clues will surface if you do, provided by the GM. If you have trouble figuring out the next step or where to find clues, ask yourself questions like: "What will I do or where will I go if I were doing the investigation in their shoes? Will I watch the news? Should I interview people? Will I go to the library?" Etc etc. You don't have to roleplay the entire investigation - for example, roleplaying your characters poring over every single book in a library sounds like a drag - but it should be summarized clearly enough to paint a picture of what your characters are attempting. ))

Roviden was too shocked to actually stop Seth from booking a room for them.

Roviden nervously took the key, looking around at the couples going all lovey dovey on one another. It nearly made him vomit again.

Not wanting to stay anywhere near the people in the lounge, he rushed to Seth's side and followed him to his room.

Might as well get some work done.

Seth nodded as the elevator started it's ascent to their specific floor (14th floor room number 07) and for once he was happy for the language barrier. If normal people heard and understood what they were talking about... well a padded room and some straight jackets would accompany them soon after.

" We must also contact the agent." He replied, getting down to business. " He should have some information as well."

He paused and absentmindedly ruffled his hair to get his brain to working, even for just a short while.

" Once we track him down... I suppose we could talk to the chap. Convince him not to hurt people..." He said.

Though he was hopeful that they could persuade their target to work with them, it would be very stupid to not think about the other option as well. He didn't like it but it must be done, this was a mission not thinking logically would end up hurting more people than actually keeping them safe. Sealing the person's abilities would render their target harmless and it should be alright from there.

" As for the other option of stopping him... I can probably look for something..." And he left it at that.

He didn't really want to bring up the whole idea of 'Sealing someone's abilities' with the demon. The memory of their first meeting was still fresh in his mind. Seth didn't know how the demon would react if he started saying things like that.

((Roviden? Gm-sama?))

3. Wonder why the bell boy keeps on giving him strange (lecherous) looks. )

Roviden quickly nodded with approval as he and the geek walked to their room

Could any one area be so PINK?

Everything inside was either pastel pink or sizzling hot pink. It burned the half-demon's eyes.

Roviden quickly threw his belongings to the King sized bed and grabed the laptop inside his back pack, turning the thing on. Thankfully, there was a strong connection in their room.

He looked Seth with a satisfied look

" Internet's working fine here..I'll surf arouns a bit..." he looked down to get into google and yahoo.

It took him a moment to grasp the color coordination that was their current room. It felt as though they've returned to the plane they were in a while ago and stomped the sudden urge to throw up again.

He wondered if he'll never look at a pink colored room without controlling his gag reflex ever again.

Seth made a move for the bed when Roviden dumped all his things on it. Taking a very deep and calming breath he looked around for the other bed and frowned when he realized that they were given only ONE bed.

There was a couch though... and it was quite as fluffy as the bed.

Not having the time and energy to try and figure out why in the world did the designer also include a full length mirror on top of the bed, he tested the couch and was happy that it was very soft... and well bouncy.

QUOTE
" Internet's working fine here..I'll surf around a bit..."

" ... Very well." He replied tiredly, snuggling into the fur.

Reaching for his cell phone, he punched in the number of the agent they were supposed to meet. They might as well get all the information gathering done whilst in civilization before they go charging in without knowing what to do...

" Ah... Hallo?" He tried his very best not to sound under the weather. " Mr..." Seth fished out his notebook and flipped through the pages. " Er... Juno...?"

Since you don't know the real identity of Subject 09, most of the news you find locally for the past few days involve only several things which may or may not be relevant:
* Unknown person rampages; kills dozens of police officers and brings down buildings. Villagers label him as El Diablo.
* Caped vigilante dispatches major crime syndicates, cleans up Mexico's streets.
* Ribbon-cutting for opening of new casino postponed.
* Hotshot archaeologist discovers new Mayan temple.
* Seventeen children missing; witnesses claim cult kidnappings.

That's basically it. You can search for more information on them if ever, and remember that going online is not your only source. ))

QUOTE ("Seth")
" Ah... Hallo?" He tried his very best not to sound under the weather. " Mr..." Seth fished out his notebook and flipped through the pages. " Er... Juno...?"

A tough, no-nonsense female voice answered the call before the first ring can even complete. "That's AGENT Juno to you, part-timer," she said in a hard Mexican accent. "Agent Juno, from the Schwarzehand Corporation. You must be either Seth Michel or Roviden Cashem. I've been notified of your arrival...so where the hell are you? Did you arrive in Torreone already?"

She went on, not giving Seth a chance to respond. "I never thought you two would be needing assistance from me so soon, but I guess that's to be expected from part-timers like Phantasma," she muttered under her breath, saying the words part-timer like it was some sort of insult. "Anyway, turn on your television and check the news. You'll find something interesting, might even be our boy," she said.

(( If you turn on the TV... ))

You switch to the news. Although its not in English, you pick up enough from the video to learn that someone is driving around Mexico City like a crazed lunatic, making cars explode and causing massive traffic and road damage. This might seem normal to a high-speed chase scene, but said exploding cars burst into flame before they even HIT anything.

The location of the incident on the news is just a few minutes' drive away from your hotel...

Roviden rubbed his nose.

It was itchy...the internet wasn't much help, strangely enough. Most of the information he gathered were vague and he couldn't put the pieces together with just that.

He raise himself from the fluffy pink bed and headed towards Seth to share some of the information he had gathered off the net.( What little there was)

The geek was talking with someone on the phone. He seemed pretty much into the conversation and the half demon took a moment to himself while waiting for the geek to finish.

It was hot in this country. Even after adjusting the airconditioning. The half-demon's clothes clung to him uncomfortably like a thick second skin.Annoyed, he torn off his black silk top and jeans...until he was wearing nothing but a pair of Dolce and Gabanna boxers.

Satisfied he edged closer to the geek to try to listen in to the converstion
